Numbers

Overview

Learn about phone number types, availability, pricing, and compliance on HoomanLabs.

In short

  • What: Rent voice phone numbers from HoomanLabs in India, the USA, and Canada — with more countries available on request.

  • How: Browse and buy numbers from the Numbers page in the app. You can also bring numbers you already own (BYOT).

  • Compliance: Some countries need approval before a number can be used. India in particular requires a compliance application — see the sections below.

Phone numbers are the identifiers your agents use to make and receive calls over the public telephone network. A number gives you reachability to mobile and landline networks and a verified caller identity for your business.

This page explains the numbers we offer and how they work. To connect your own provider account, see the Telephony Guide.

Telephony

Phone number types

HoomanLabs currently provides local (fixed) voice numbers.

  • Local (fixed) numbers are tied to a specific region — a city, state, or country. They look familiar to people in that area and are the standard choice for sales, support, and outbound calling.

Need a toll-free number, an SMS-capable number, or another special type? These aren't listed in the app yet — contact us and we'll set it up for you.

Country availability

You can buy numbers directly from the app in the countries below. For any other country, just reach out and we'll provision it for you (we don't list every country in the app because only a few customers need them).

Providers

Numbers from HoomanLabs are supplied through trusted providers. In the app you'll choose between:

  • Plivo

  • Exotel (India)

The provider you pick affects which numbers and prices are available. You can also bring numbers from Twilio and other providers using BYOT (see below).

India — available regions

For India, you select a region (state or city) and then pick from the available numbers in that region. Regions currently include:

  • Karnataka

  • Kerala

  • Maharashtra

  • Madhya Pradesh

  • Mumbai

  • Rajasthan

  • Tamil Nadu

  • West Bengal

The exact regions and numbers available depend on the provider you choose (Plivo or Exotel). All Indian numbers require an approved compliance application. (For Plivo, Bangalore region numbers are available explicitly).

Pricing

Numbers are billed as a recurring monthly rental. The price depends on the country, region, and provider.

Compliance

Many countries require regulatory documents before a number can be activated. Requirements vary by country and number type.

  • United States & Canada: No documents needed. You can buy and use numbers right away.

  • India: A compliance application is required. When you select an Indian number, you'll be asked to choose an approved application (for example, "Hooman Labs Indian Number") before you can finish.

  • Other countries (UAE, Singapore, etc.): Documents are usually needed. We'll guide you through what's required when you request a number.

You manage these from the Compliance tab on the Numbers page. Create and submit your application there; once it's approved, you can select it while buying a number.

India note: All outbound calls from India must use a HoomanLabs-provided Indian number as the caller ID. Using your own number as a verified caller ID is not supported for India.

Adding a number

You can add a number in two ways. Full step-by-step instructions are linked below:

Need something we're not listing?

We keep the app focused on the countries and number types most customers use, but we can provide much more behind the scenes. Reach out to us if you need:

  • A number in a country not shown in the app (UAE, Singapore, UK, Australia, and many others).

  • A toll-free or SMS-capable number.

  • A large batch of numbers, or help with compliance for a specific country.

We'll provision it for you and walk you through any documents required.
